The number of personal vehicles has skyrocketed over the last thirty years, that1 has had a big influence on life in the cities and nowadays their streets and roads are so2 busy like never before. But not everyone wants to put up with this and governments do measures to convince citizens to refuse from3 personal cars.

In my opinion traffic jams are a significant problem for many megalopolises. At first glance, a personal car is the fastest and the most comfortable way to get to work or to visit the supermarket, but in fact drivers waste hours in traffic jams. Besides exhaust emissions spoiling the ecological situation, streets become more dangerous for pedestrians. That’s why mayors of many cities try to tickle4 this problem.

One of the examples of an overloaded car city is the capital city of Russia — Moscow. The number of personal vehicles exceed 4 million and the population is around 12 million. Despite the wide roads and a big5 number of parking places6 the owners of cars waste a lot of time in traffic jams. The mayor of Moscow leads different projects to discourage people from using a car. For example, the development of the social transport system and the increasing cost of parking in the city center. Despite these measures in 2020 Moscow took the first place by number of traffic congestion.
The better case is Berlin, where cars are more unpopular7 than in Moscow. Car taxes are pretty high and there are not a lot of roads for cars in the center of the city. That makes owning a car disadvantageous.

In conclusion, people will refuse personal vehicles on two conditions: when the social transport system will be comfortable and car owning becomes less advantageous. (291 words)

  1. Тут нужен which.
  3. «… refuse from using personal cars».
  4. Tackle, а не tickle. Tickle — это «щекотать»!:)
  5. High number
  6. Parking spaces —
  7. «Less popular» будет ествественнее «more unpopular».
