IELTS Writing Task 1 — Population Growth #3

The presented graphs describe the trend in world population over the period from 1800 to 2100 and number of people living in urban areas in the past 5 and the next 20 years. The second graph also shows the distinction between regions with different levels of development.

As regards the population of the earth₁, the figures we can observe on the first graph show that during the years from 1800 to 1940 there was a gradual increase in the number of people on the planet. Then there was₂ a considerable rise, displayed as a sharp climb in the graph, from 3000 million to 9000 million people. However, the graph predicts a significant dent in population after 2040.

As for the second graph, there is an obvious₃ difference in the number of people living in a city in developed and developing regions. The urban population of areas with a low level of development has remained₃ unchanged for all 25 years and was steadily₄ small (less than 1500 million people), while in developed regions, statistics show a constant growth from about 2000 million to 4000 million people.

To conclude, on the graphs, there is a trend for the growth of the general population of the planet and the urban population alike up to 2040.

1. Так как это имя собственное, нужно писать его с большой буквы. Больше информации здесь.
2. Прошедшее время здесь не совсем уместно, ведь мы описываем часть графика с прогнозами на будущее. «Then a considerable rise is expected/predicted…».
3. См. 2. Если хочется использовать перфект (отличная идея!), то можно вот так: «it is believed/projected that … will have remained unchanged for all 25 years…».
4. Это слово больше подойдёт для изменяющихся величин. Вариант для цифр без изменения — «consistently». Можно немного прочитать об этом здесь.
   Как можно было улучшить эту работу, помимо отмеченных частей? Хотелось бы увидеть изначальную величину в первом графике (~1000). В остальном работа без замечаний!
