IELTS Writing Part 1 — Urban Migration #1

The presented line graph displays the movement of people from the countryside to cities in three chosen countries and tries to understand₁ how numbers will change in the future.

Russia and Iran showed the₂ rapid growth of city dwellers between the₃ 2000 and 2020. In Russia the number will change₄ from around 15 million people to 80 million, Iran — from less than 10 million to 80 million. As we see from the chart after the year 2020 the growth continues in both regions.

The other situation is Indonesia₅. In₆ the same period of time the marks increased more slightly than in other countries. Besides, the number of urban citizens will stop after the year 2020 and level out on₇ 30 million people.

In the₈ conclusion, datas₉ about Russia and Iran climbed during the hall period. In Indonesia it went up gradually and remains₁₀ constant after 2020.

1. Attempts to predict/presents an estimate of — во-первых, формулировка «пытается понять» не будет оптимальной для статистических данных.
2. Здесь артикль не нужен, так как слово growth — неисчесляемое, к тому же мы упоминаем его впервые в тексте.
3. С цифрами история немного другая — зачастую определённый артикль нам нужен только с порядковыми числительными (in the 21st century)
4. In Russia the number is projected/predicted to change — согласно исправлениям пункта 1 мы меняем и глагол. Дальнейшие исправления такого рода не маркируются.
5. The situation in Indonesia is different/A different situation can be seen in Indonesia — порядок слов в исходном предложении несколько смещает смысловой фокус, в результате смысл будет «Другая ситуация в Индонезии», нежели желаемый «В Индонезии ситуация обстоит иначе».
6. Слово during или over больше подойдёт для изменений, происходивших на протяжении какого-то периода.
7. … level out at 30 million people — когда речь о конкретном цифровом значении в графике — используем at. Например «на уровне 10 тысяч» — at the level of 10 thousand
8. Артикль не нужен, так как тут устоявшееся выражение «In conclusion»
9. In conclusion, figures/numbers of/in Russia and Iran … — во-первых, слово data — это как русское «данные», оно уже во множественном числе. Во-вторых, выросли всё же не данные, а показатели или цифры.
10. Is likely to remain/is projected to remain constant — используя Present Simple, мы делаем высказывание слишком категоричным. Помните, что речь идёт о прогнозе, который не обязательно сбудется.
